A New Attack on Belarus’ Civil Society — Ales Bialiatski is detained

Today Ales Bialiatski, the Head of the Viasna Human Rights Center and the Vice President of the FIDH, was detained in Minsk. The human rights defender was arrested by the unknown persons in civil clothes presenting themselves as finance police officers. This is all that Ales Beliatskiy managed to convey to his colleague, Vladimir Labkovich. After the arrest, he was not allowed to make phone calls.

According to the Human Rights Centre "Viasna", its leader and vice-president of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) Ales Bialjatski was arrested today in his apartment in Minsk. His location at the moment is unknown. There is a search taking place at his apartment.

As it became known today from a letter of the Head of the Human Rights Center "Viasna", vice-president of the International Federation of Human Rights Ales Bialiatski to his wife, the chairman of the Minsk City Court dismissed the supervisory complaint filed by the human rights activist and his lawyer against the verdict of the Pershamaiski Dstrict Court of Minsk and the ruling of the panel of judges of the Minsk City Court.
